SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a server and conduct different tasks via a command line. The protocol is employed by many knowledgeable users, due to the fact that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be employed for a number of things depending on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the server allows it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for pretty much everything - you may install software or restart specific services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used mostly with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients that permit you to employ the protocol if your PC is working with a different OS as well. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port though a number of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Web Hosting

If the shared web hosting plan that you’ve chosen throughout the signup procedure includes SSH access by default, you shall be able to activate this function with a click within your Hepsia Control Panel. If you've picked a different package, the SSH access feature could be included using the Upgrades menu and it'll become available instantly. All the information that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You may also set what password to use from the same location and you shall be able to change it anytime. All of the commands which are allowed are listed inside the Help articles that we've prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax that you need to use. An additional advantage of enabling SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you are able to include it from the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. In any case, you could activate and de-activate the feature with one click through the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you could input the password which you want to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as frequently as you want. A full list of the commands which can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a couple of instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to handle your content no matter which VPS servers you choose when you sign up, since all of our plans offer this feature as standard. You won't need to include or allow anything by hand - the minute your web server is prepared and you get the Welcome email with the login information, you'll be able to connect and start working on your sites or any software which you want to set up and run on the web server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be isolated from all of the other accounts inside the physical hosting server, you will be able to do anything you'd like with no restrictions. You can set up any application that you need and which shall run on a Linux-based hosting server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases efficiently.
